Neurofeedback addresses problems of brain disregulation. Typically, when the brain wave frequencies move into a desired frequency pattern, symptoms may be greatly decreased or completely eliminated. Often, it is only a matter of getting the brain to function better, rather than curing a condition. With neurofeedback, your client does not necessarily have to have a clear diagnosis. Instead, neurofeedback focuses more on the specific symptoms of each individual and improving those symptoms.
Success
Neurofeedback is gaining popularity due to its high success rate. We have high expectations when it comes to administering neurofeedback. Nearly everyone should see gains of some sort in their sessions (provided they are attended with some regularity.) If this success level is not being met, there is usually a reason. With some tweaking of the sessions most clients will see gains that they, and those around them, notice.
Medications
After successfully completing their sessions and working with their prescribing doctor, many clients can either decrease their dosage or stop using their medication. The brain starts to take over the role of regulating itself. Instead of changing the chemistry of the brain like medications, neurofeedback helps change the brain to its more effective and efficient state.
